Established  in 1982, Centro de Línguas de Lagos is a language school in western Algarve, Portugal. We teach Portuguese, English, French and German and are recognised by the Portuguese Ministry of Education. The school is in the historical centre of Lagos, probably one of the most beautiful towns in the Algarve, with stunning beaches and only a 50-minute drive from Faro airport.

We have Portuguese group courses at all levels. Currently these are offered online as they’ve proved to be very popular. Initially courses were arranged online in response to circumstances dictated by the pandemic. However, the take up far surpassed our expectations and demand for online group courses hasn’t slackened off but continues to grow.

It’s easy to see why online courses have maintained their appeal. As students meet each other online, it offers a natural way of making friends. On a practical level, online courses also offer students hidden benefits; no need to use the car, pay for parking, or wait for public transport. Immediately, you save time and money. Our online classes offer flexibility so, as long as you have wifi, you can attend classes anywhere. Whether you’re a digital nomad or just away for a few days, you don’t have to miss anything.

The key word is definitely flexibility. At Centro de Línguas de Lagos, we recognise some people may want something a little more tailored to their needs. Some students want face to face lessons. This is where private lessons come into their own. They can be online or in school or a combination of both. We have a very professional and dedicated team of teachers that takes learning requirements and aspirations of all private students into account when planning lessons.

A recent success is our English in Tourism short course.  Lagos is a popular tourist destination and this course undoubtedly makes life easier for people with tourist-related jobs.

I am really delighted with the Intermediate Course that I am now doing online. I did the Beginners' Course in 2018 and the Pre-Intermediate Course in 2019 in the Centro in Lagos and enjoyed both those courses and learned a lot. I thought, with the Corona Virus situation, that the Intermediate Course I had enrolled in would be cancelled and I was very happy when I heard that it was moving online.

We are now half-way through the course and it is going really well. I am doing it from my home in Ireland. To be honest it is not very different from the experience of doing it face to face in a group in the Centro. The group of seven in the class has gelled very well and the classes are accessible and engaging. The technology has worked and there have been no problems at all. The homework is emailed to us after the lessons.

I would be happy to reassure anyone who is nervous about doing a course like this online that it works and it is easy to do. The main difference I regret is that nobody can bring a box of Pasteis de Nata for our break - as we used to take turns doing when I attended the courses in the Centro in the past. Now if Ana could find a way to email them - that would be really excellent!!!
